UPROOTED: The Katrina Project | International Festival of Arts and Ideas
Jun 14, 2006Alternate ROOTS hired me to graphically facilitate 4 story circles as part of their UPROOTED: Katrina project at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven, Connecticut.
The organization brought dozens of artists who had been displaced by last year's Hurrican Katrina to the festival. The artists were invited to attend our sessions and share their stories of the disaster, disruption, rebuilding, impact on their lives and artistic practices.
I am always thankful for the opportunity to listen and draw -- and as a fellow artist, these conversations resonated far more than a standard corporate session.
You can see the commonalities across the four sessions below.

The final conversation really came together with the nested circles of stories, themes, purpose.
