Drawing The Big Idea: Ink Factory at Chicago Ideas Week
Oct 11, 2012The Ink Factory team are the graphic recorders of record at the Chicago Ideas Week, and this year they created a brilliant installation in the plaza in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art. A super jumbo sketchbook ready for YOUR big ideas. Six feet by nine feet?
When I walked up the page was filled. I told Jim, the awesome volunteer, I needed a new page. He resisted. No, I NEED a new page. Happily, Lindsay Roffe arrived and agreed I needed a new page. :^)
The giant, flat nibs of Copic Wide markers, who sponsored the project, made such glorious marks.
On my bulb guy, I wrote an incorrectly remembered snippet (bolded below) of my #1 favorite quote:
"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty. Think big."
— Daniel Burnham, Chicago architect and city planner
I made a Brandy-sized drawing! Either I am tiny, or this sketchbook is giant. Or both.
