Befriend you brain.

brain-friendly neurodiversity Aug 17, 2020

I was hiding under my desk, only a week after I moved into my beloved studio.

Raised in a Tornado Alley, I was prepared.

That was the day I learned what a derecho was.

A kickline of tornadoes.
🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️

That derecho ripped off the building's roof that Monday afternoon. One of only a few streets that it touched in Chicago. Neighbors snapped into action, and NO ONE was hurt.

The next morning I hosted my monthly Q+A, Drawing as a Verb.

Afterwards, I felt my face go numb.

Then my arm.

Off to the ER!

👍 I was AOK.

👎 It was "just stress."

Clearly, the stress of the freight train going overhead and then being ⚡LIVE⚡ teaching wasn't brain-friendly.

And it told me off!

Days later, I GOT TO SEE MY BRAIN. 👍👍

What you see is not MY brain, but isn't it marvelous?

The neurologist said mine looked healthy and happy.
✨🧠✨

It's easy to think of our brains as an abstract thing.

The squishy lump that is in overdrive, or can't focus, or tells us this or that.

This post is a reminder that your brain is very real and working tirelessly for you.

Give it a break, eh?
